Do you need to be delinquint before you can apply for a deed in lieu?

Owned the house since 2005. Have been unemployed for an extenede period of time. I can't continue to make the mortgage payments. Can I only apply for a deed in lieu if I'm behind three or more payments?
No you do not have to be delinguent however the only way you would be facing foreclosure is if you are delinquent.
