I am thinking about selling or renting my home and i want to find out if there is a lien.
thank you
Hi

I think you can check it from the county recorder's office or an assessor's office. If you give them the legal description or the address of the property, they can provide you with the information whether there is any lien on the property. You can also take assistance from a title search company. They can conduct a comprehensive search on the property and give you a clear picture of the deed to the property and liens against it, if any.

Check to see if your county clerk office have deed records online. Run a name search to see if anything attaches itself to your name.

If you have not been paying a mortgage then more than likely you don't have a real estate lien. Unless you are talking about Abstracts of Judgments, Federal Tax Liens, Child Support Liens, or something of that matter; You will find them if they have attached it to your propety or to your name.

If they don't have it online, go to your county clerks office and search their computers there. It is free to search. But, if you want to pay for services, find a real estate title company or an abstracting agency and see how much it cost to run your name. If you don't know what you are looking for or how to do it then you can always pay someone to do it for you. The cost is around $100-300 depdending on the title company.

Good luck!
I hope this helps =)

A lien found with your name in real estate records means that you have some type of lien attached to the real estate such a mortgage deed of trust or vendors lien AND/OR if you have lien agaist your name, it could possibly be some type of judgement such as a federal tax lien from the IRS, if you haven't paid certain creditors they may be able to file a lien saying you owe them money in your county. It just all depends on what is filed against you and what is found of record in the county in which the lien is filed. It could be a number of things.
