After I completed my chapter 13 in 2005 I called my mortgage company to ascertain what the payment would be; after I finally got to talk to a representative I was told it was "charged off". I have never heard from any entity regarding obligation, collections, and/or any payments. I am now wanting to quit claim the property; waiting on title search...How long after charge-off can collections be sought?
Hi ckrollenhagen,
You will have to check out the statute of limitations for charged off debts in your state. Once the statute of limitations get over, the collection agency won't be able to come after you to collect the debts legally.
