HI, I was "talked into" going to college online. I ended up with a Sallie Mae loan. When I realized that it was a loan and need repayment I dropped out of school.
I owe a about $3500.00 to Sallie Mae. I am on SSI not regular Social Security.
Can Sallie Mae garnish my SSI payments?
Thanks so much for you help,
Lori

no, lori, they cannot garnish your ssi payments. given that you only owe $3500, can't you work out a payment arrangement with them that will be suitable for both parties?
Hi Lori,
George is correct, Sallie Mae cannot garnish your ssi payments. There are firms who consolidate student loans. You can consult them so that you make low monthly payments to pay off that debt. Do a market survey and search for a good consolidation company.
If you have any question feel free to ask.

Rita's suggestion is fine, but perhaps not necessary. Sallie Mae ought to be able to work out this situation as well.
