Odd "Grace Period" Letter w/disconnected phone number

Posted on: 25th Apr, 2009 10:40 am
I don't know what to make of this - can anyone help?

I'm on a repayment plan w/Wells Fargo w/2 payments to go. I got this "Grace Period" letter today on photo copied Well Fargo letterhead stating my loan is 30 days past due and and it's in my best interest to seek approved housing counseling. Then it lists the following address & phone numbers:

Wells Fargo Home Mortgage
PO Box 10335
Des Moines, IA 50306-0335
866-551-9808 Phone (which is disconnected btw)
866-359-7363

At the bottom of the letter is give another number for the consumer hotline of the IL dept of Finanacial & professionsl regulation: 800-532-8785

So I called Well Fargo today and was told I am still on the repayment plan & not to worry, but the rep stated she could see all letters that have been sent to me and she did not see anything about this "Grace Period" letter.

This seems like it might be some kind of scam - anybody familiar with this type of letter?
Looks like someoen is trying to get money out of you.

If your bank says you are ok with your payments and you have all the proper doucments for the same, you shoudl be good.

Make sure to followup with your bank until everythign is clarified.

Check the validity of the document sent you.
