Was going to sell home on short sale, now realtor backed out. Now think I'm going for a deed in lieu. I'm 65 with no knowledge of legal matters like this. Do I need to get a lawyer I can't afford?? Answer please
Welcome trufflemica,
You can apply for a deed in lieu of foreclosure with your lender directly. You do not need the help of a lawyer for this. You can write a hardship letter to the lender explaining your financial crisis. Depending upon that, the lender will let you know whether or not you would be qualified for a deed in lieu. If you are not comfortable negotiating with your lender, then you can contact a lawyer.
