There may be a lien on property that was just purchased, who is responsible?

In 2008 the property next to ours was sold by the Sheriff's Sale for foreclosed property and the purchaser received the Deed without Warranty. In October 2009 my husband and I purchased from him, and we received a General Warranty Deed. We just found out that there may be a lien on this property for Property Owner Association dues dating back to 2003. Who would be responsible for this? The way that I understand the General Warranty Deed law, it would be the seller and not us. Am I correct?
Hi sharon!

Welcome to forums!

You should contact the seller and ask him to clear off the lien immediately. As the property is in your name, the Property Owner's Association can ask you to pay off the dues now.
