My life is a mess. I just concluded a very nasty divorce that took 8 months to complete. To date, I have paid my attorney $59,726.00 by refinancing my house and maxing out my credit cards. We were in the middle of looking into a retirement account my ex hid from us when I discovered my attorney has "lost" 7 boxes of my documents. These contained IRS taxes, reciepts, social security number for me, my ex, and 3 children. All of my investment portfolios as well as home warrenties, professional liability insurance policies and medical records.
when I pressed them for my documents they started questioning the money I still owed them $34,000. When I explained once (of several times) that I was going to PIF when I had my investment information so I could see where to get the money with the least amount of tax liability, they fired me. They filed a notice with the court for nonrepresentation saying they had not done any work for me in over 30 days, and that I owed them too much money.
I realize I owe them money, but dont they owe me something???? I am still making payments to them every month, but I have "heard" they are going to place a lien on my home! Will a lien continue to accrue interest? Ric

They first have to win a judgment against you in order to put a lien on your house. You may want to hire another attorney
You can probably sue them and/or report them for losing your files...which is a very big deal if you had sensitive information in it.
Liens placed against a home can accrue interest but it will depend on the state for how much it can accrue
