My ex husband and I are divorced but I only signed a quit claim but my name is still in the mortgage. He is applying for loan modification and has missed 3 months of payment and now it's appearing in my credit report. Is there a way I can ask the credit reporting agencies to make a notation that I am actually not involved in this anymore? Thanks!
Hi countinblucars,
As your name still appears on the mortgage docs, the mortgage default will also be reported to your credit report. It would have been better if your ex-husband would have refinanced the loan in his name. If he modifies the loan, then your signatures would also be required. If your divorce decree states that he would have to refinance the mortgage in his name once you quitclaim the property, then you can have a word with your lender and the credit bureaus and try to get it removed from your report.
Thanks
