Hi merce,
You are in a tough situation. Unless your husband is able to show the lender that he has a job and a fixed income, the lender will not be ready to modify the loan. Your husband should negotiate with his employers so that he is able to prove that he will return to his job once he gets well. Once he is able to prove it to the lender, the lender may modify the mortgage.
Thanks
