I have a mortgage w/ Countrywide and I got behind last September I tried to make a payment in November but by then they needed 2 payments. After getting behind the last thing I had was 2 months of payments. So I waited another month hoping for a foreclosure letter that never came because of this housing mess and ensuing crisis. I want to keep my house but I can't give them the $12k they want- what do I do?
I'm currently in the "system" for mortgage review and every time we call them we have to go through our financial situation. They say it's in process but how can it be in process if we never talk to "them"? I honestly don't know what to do

In my opinion, you should write a hardship letter to the lender and apply for a loan modification. A loan modification will help you in saving your property. However, you should note that when the lender gives you a new repayment plan, he will add up the past dues which may increase your monthly payments.
