Property Damage while in forebearance payback

Posted on: 10th Sep, 2009 12:48 pm
I am currently making my mortgage payment under terms negotiated by a forbearance plan, since I was laid off earlier this year.

In July my area experience a hailstorm the likes of which I have never ever seen. The roof to my home and garage were destroyed along with many windows and anything else in this storm's wake.

I was issued a check from my insurance company in my name and the name of my lienholder "MetLife". I called Met and was told to send the check along with a letter requesting they co-sign the check so I can give to my builder for the repairs.

MetLife sent the check back to me along with a letter stating that they could not endorse it because the loan is "delinquent".

Although I have been sending my payments according the the terms of the forebearance plan, for the last 3 months I have received letters that the loan is delinquent. Every time I call I am told that these letters are generated automatically and that I can ignore them.

Who can I turn to for help with this? No one is concerned for me when I call but I need help. My roof is becoming more and more deteriorated.
You should inform the customer service representative about the insurance check and ask them what you can do in order to get the check co-signed by the lender. If they are unable to answer your query, hire an attorney who will deal with your lender and get the check co-signed. This will help you in getting the money you need to repair your roof.
