Welcome dhill,
I don't think your name can be added to the mortgage with the help of a letter. I think your name was added to the mortgage with the help of a refinance. In order to remove your name from the mortgage, you'll have to ask your ex to refinance the property.

There was no re-finance. Just added to the mortgage. Researched the deeds filed in the county and just the original deed with my ex's name. I have the original loan docs. Is there a specific procedure to have my name removed.
Hi dhill,
If you want to remove your name from the property deed, then you'll have to sign a quitclaim deed. Once your name is removed from the property, you can ask your ex to refinance the property. Once the property is refinanced, your name would be removed from the mortgage.

Hi
Are you still listed on the title to the property? If yes, then before you sign the deed to give up your interest make sure that you get it in writing from him that once the property is quitclaim your ex will refinance the property. Otherwise, your name will remain on the mortgage, while you will be left with no interest in the property. You can also talk with your lender and ask them to release you of the mortgage liability.
