How will I remove myself from the mortgage after our divorce is final? My husband does not want to sell off the property and has always made the payments on time.
Your husband will have to refinance the mortgage in his name or assume it in order to remove your name from the mortgage docs.
Hi Bartoli,
Compared to the option of assumption, the lender will prefer if he could refinance the mortgage in his name in order to remove you from the mortgage docs.
Thanks

Most people do not think about it but a divorce and credit checks should go hand n hand. After the divorce you need to work with the local offices at the courthouse to go about getting your name off the mortgage if you are walking away and letting your husband have the property. Remember to keep an eye on your credit until you are free of the mortgage because as long as your name is on it you share the credit rating any missed payments may cause.
