My son, daugher-in law and grandchildren share a house

Posted on: 23rd Nov, 2009 09:15 am
I made the complete downpayment on the house ($12,000), which does not include the hit of $3,500 in early withdrawal taxes, as well as paying over a third of the mortgage in the way of rental payments each month (including the month when I hadn't even moved in). Even though it was their idea to move me in, my son now says he wants me out. I have had to get rid of my possessions (i.e. washer, dryer, furniture, pots and pans, etc.) What recourse do I have against him should he try to throw me out?
Hi thamilton!

Welcome to forums!

Is your name mentioned in the property deed? If yes, then you would be considered as one of the owners of the property and your son will not be able to force you to leave the property. However, if you're not the owner of the property, then he has the rights to ask you to leave the property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
