i am getting to the end of my short sale. i purchased my home in 2005 for $260k; the banks accepted an offer for $130k. i had a home equity loan for 24k. the second lien asked for 3k out of the 130k. will the 2nd lien most likely go after me for the difference.
another question...will i have to pay taxes on the difference?

Hi jme va,
Both the first and the second lender have the rights to collect the deficient amount from your. If you cannot pay off the balance amount, both the lenders will have the rights to garnish your savings account or your salary.
If the balance amount is forgiven, you may or may not have to pay the dues depending upon your state laws.
