State tax lien

Posted on: 09th Apr, 2010 08:29 pm
I owe back taxes in my state which I have been making payment. The state feels that I'm not paying enough and put a tax lien on me. My question is my wife owns our house my name is not on it. She bought this house before we got together Can they go after her?
Hi Riddick,

If your name is not on the property, then the state will not be able to come after that property in order to recover the dues. The state will only come after the property on which they have placed the tax lien.

Thanks
