My grandmother bought a property and added me to the title. The mortgage is still in her name. She is no more and the property is underwater. Can I just walk away from the property? Will it affect my credit?
As your name is not on the mortgage docs, you may walk away from the property. The lender won't be able to come after you in order to recover the mortgage payments.
Are you the Heir to her Estate? If you are, you'll need to close out her mortgage when her Estate is settled.
