my father would like to quit claim deed a piece of property to me. i am married and he only wnats to quit claim it to me only. once we have completed this process i want to add my spouse. can this be done? also in a community property state does this become community property anyway?
Hi,
In a community property state, if you acquire a property after marriage through inheritance or as a gift, it is not considered as a community property and you become the sole owner of that particular piece of property. After that you can always add your spouse to the property through quitclaim. However, this would not be required if your father quitclaims the property to both of you because that seems to me the best option as it will save both time and money and would be a lot more hassle-free.
Please, do not hesitate to ask further queries, if you have any.
Take care & be happy.
God bless you.
