my mother passed on january 20, 2009 and she had an attorney to draw up papers and file for a quit claim deed listed me her daughter as the grantee of her house on november 7, 2008. the mortgage company honored her wishes and i assumped the mortgage on october 7, 2009. on january 1,2010 i called my mother insurance agent and asked them to put the insurance in my name because i needed to transfer everything in my name pretaining to this house. i received a packet in the mail from the insurace company showing me as the insured for the property with an effective date of january 5,2010 to january 5,2011. on january 25,2010 i received a letter from the insurance company stating that my coverage would be cancelled on february 9, 2010 due to the findings of an inspection. which indicated the reasons as condition of roof is unacceptable as descriped by inspection, condition of risk as described by inspection. i put a claim in on january 22, 2010 for wind damged on my property because the where some shingles on the ground from bad weather and strong winds on january 17, 2010. an inspector came out and look at the roof on january 25, 2010 and said that i needed a new roof because there were too many shingles that needed to be replaced. the next day i received a phone called from the claim examiner which she stated that the claim would not be paid due to pre-existing. but she did informed me that they are sending out another inspector. she was not aware of a quit claim had been done in 2008 in my name, until i informed her of it. my mother had been insured with this company for over five years because her previous insurance went out of business. this house is 13 years old. at the time they insured her the second company, she did not have these damages. i forgot there is some mold and rotten wood issue on one side of the house around the bathroom window. please help, a greiving daughter trying to save her mothe's house, which is now mine.
call the insurance commissioner in your state if you can't get favorable results from the insurance company. i'd make my case once more - tomorrow - with the insurance company to see if they'll honor the policy and the provisions therein, letting them know that you understand that the insurance commissioner of your state might have an interest in knowing what they're doing to you.
that might just light a fire under their posteriors. don't delay in this - you need to get it done, but you know that.
