can I transfer a property to my wife so no one can sue me for it

Posted on: 05th Jun, 2011 08:32 pm
I have a property that using my wifes money I bought it but it is titled in my name. Now a neighbor, using this term lightly, has had an attorney send me a letter wanting my properties insurance companies name because, you will like this, he was standing in his driveway when a tree limb supposidly struck him during an ice storm.
Now there is now court law suit filed yet and no court dates. So can they try and get this property after I have quick claimed it over to someone, wife or mother. Or would it be better to title it over to my mother so it is not part of my wifes property for the time being.
Lastly, I am also on another property jointly with my wife should I also remove my name from this property?
Hi tbearking,

As a lawsuit has been already filed against you, it won't be a good option to transfer the properties to someone else. Before taking any such steps, it will be better if you could contact an attorney and take his opinion in this matter.

Thanks,

Jerry
