not on the deed

We've been married for 40 years & live in Ga. We bought a house 10 years ago & only my husbands name is on the deed. He now has Dementia & I have power of attorney. How do I get my name on the deed to protect myself in case something should happen to him?
Hi mrschief!

Welcome to forums!

As you have the power of attorney on behalf of your husband, you can sign a quitclaim deed and add your name to the property deed. You should contact a real estate attorney and he will guide you regarding the whole process.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

i think that your signing a quit claim deed that changes ownership could be construed as a nefarious act, and i suggest you find yourself an estate attorney who can guide you through these dangerous waters. you don't need to do something that you ought not do, so you need the advice of someone whose expertise is in that area.
