we have a friend of the family, that has an issue and has gone to a lawyer...its a real mess
Well,5 years ago our friend...we told needed to go to a lawyer and get his situation taken care of legally.Well is what it was...him and his 4 brothers lived with there elderlyaunt<which>..but the men were all from 40 on.The aunt was getting up there and needed to eventually go into a assisted living situation,so we ...my husband and myself suggested they the men ,the few responsible ones to get a lawyer so it would be in the old aunts best interest for some kind of deed.Well....since then the house has burned to the ground and the little aunt is in a state funded assited iliving home. The property is now in limbo the lawyer had 3 brothers placed on paper after the aunt dies so in the mean time the aunt is a life estate..so whom atually is responsible for ...taxes..irrigation ..liability and will the state if and when it realizes that the aunt is a life estater sell it out from under the brothers to pay back her share of medicade? Its a real mess and myself and my husband feel awful for directing our friend .We had no clue it would be such a mess...we should of never tried to help anyone as now we hope it doesnt turn out like a sour lemon, for our friend..what do you think?
Hi denice!

Welcome to forums!

Your aunt only has life estate rights to the property. She won't be liable for paying taxes, irrigation, liability, etc. For further information, I will suggest you to contact a real estate attorney and take his opinion in this regard.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
