Hello, My father passed away several years ago. Some of the property had his name only on the deed, some had his name and his second wife's name. The agreement on the distribution of property as specified in the will was that the names on the property would stay as is. My stepmother was given a lifetime estate in their residence, and the full proceeds from a house they owned in another state. Now it seems that somehow she has added her name to several of the deeds. I am executor of the estate. Is this legal for her to do, and how could this have happened without my permission? Thank you.
Hi polsazon,
She cannot add her name to the other property deeds without the prior consent and signatures of the other persons on the property deed. If you feel that she has done something illegal, you can dispute the property deeds in the court. You can contact a real estate attorney and he will be the best person to let you know what steps you need to take.
