Name on Deed

Posted on: 29th Jan, 2009 11:57 am
Hi

I basically live in a condo with my mom who owns it but I financially support her. I give her money every month to pay the mortgage and everything else cause she cant work

is it a good idea for me to put my name on the deed of the home? Will I suffer any setbacks if i go to buy my own home for the first time ( as in lose out on any first time home buyer's benefits)

Thanks!
Jounal
Yes it is a very good idea to put your name on the deed. Speak to an attorney who specializes in estate planning. Is there a mortgage on the property?

Hi J.Shaikh,

I agree with Eric that it's a good idea of getting your name on the property deed. But I think you will suffer setbacks if you are planning to buy your first home and want to get the first time home buyer's benefits. You can also follow Eric's advice of consulting a real estate attorney before taking any decision.

Thanks
