Add my name to a deed

Posted on: 13th Jul, 2010 09:58 am
My partner (not married) currently holds the mortgage and our house deed in his name and we'd like to add my name to the deed, "just in case" anything were to happen to him, I would not be left without a chance at keeping the home. What do we need to do that? I contacted the agency that originally did the paperwork for us but they wanted $400 to do it and it seems a bit on the steep side.
hi sunshyne,

you need to ask your partner to sign a quit claim deed in order to add your name to the property deed. once this is done, both of you can refinance the home loan. thus, your name will be added both to the property as well as the loan.

thanks
