My Father in-law gave us a house as a gift but did not put it in my name. I am the provider and paying for all house up-keep and repairs. I dont want to fork out $6000 on a roof if the house is not in my name. I want to find out how to add my name to the deed. The house is paid for free and clear.
Hi evanss!
Welcome to forums!
If the property is in your spouse's name, then you should ask him/her to sign a quit claim deed and add your name to it. Once your name is added to the deed, you would become the owner of the property.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Hi,
In order to become a co-owner of the property, your husband needs to sign a quitclaim deed. However, it is absolutely up to him to sign the quitclaim deed as presently he/she is the owner of the property. It is now up to you to invest money on your property. Hope this will help.
