me and my ex bought an apartment together, but split up he said i could sign it over to him so im rid of him and house. we cant sell it cos would loose money n cost too much. If i sign it over is this legal or would he throw it back in my face if he realised he couldnt afford it?
Hi claire!

Welcome to forums!

As far as I know, your ex can transfer the property to you but you need to accept it and record the deed at the county recorder's office in order to make it legal. If you don't do so, the deed won't be considered as legal.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

sussane, you reversed the deal here. HE wants HER to quit claim the property to HIM.

this is a potentially hazardous thing to do, as transferring ownership won't do anything as far as eliminating your obligation on the mortgage, claire.

"throwing it back in your face" isn't really an issue - it's that you're still obligated to pay the mortgage on the apartment you two bought. you need to be much stronger in your negotiation with him and ensure that he'll obtain a refinance of the mortgage, thereby eliminating your obligation. working with a lawyer would be a good start for you.
