Should we wait to transfer the property to our names till after we build on it?...my fiance's parents would like to give us proptery they bought a couple of years ago so we can build a house on it. The property is in New Jersey and we have not started to build on it yet. What is the easiest way to get this done? Should we start building before this is completed?
your fiance's parents can use a quit claim deed to tansfer the property to you. it's quickly, effective and convenient.

Yes liaoyu, I too think that your fiance's parents should first transfer the property to you so that you can start building upon it.

Thanks

If you build the house before they transfer the property, they could change their mind and keep the house.

Transfer the property using a Grant Deed before starting to build a house on it.

Let me get this -- you have cash to build the house? Must be; otherwise you'd have to have the title in your name to get a construction loan. Well, it's nice to have all that cash!

Hi ilonka!

It will be best if you do a quitclaim deed. You can transfer the ownership of the property in your daughter's name. However, you can mention a life estate estate which will help you to live in the house until death.

Yes, you will have to spend some dollars for the stamp docs. Your attorney will be of a greater help to you in this regard who will help you in doing this quitclaim deed. Remember to notarize the deed.

Thanks,

Jerry
