For some reason, all of the duplexes in my area are sold as "1/2 duplexes" and thus have separate deeds for tax purposes. How might I be able to combine two "1/2 duplex" deeds into one? After all, they are identical properties attached to one another. They are physically duplexes, although they are effectively, for loan/deed purposes, two townhomes.
Welcome halfduplex,
If there are two separate properties, then you won't be able to combine them into one. As the properties are attached to one another, I would suggest you to get in touch with an attorney in order to get further opinion in this matter. He might guide you whether or not you would be able to combine two "1/2 duplex".

Subdivisions are handled by the county. Ask them about it. It will probably be best just to continue to treat them as 2 properties.
