Co Signor not on Mortgage Title

Posted on: 03rd Jul, 2010 01:01 pm
I cosigned on a mortgage my mother obtained a few years ago. Is it required that the Bank through which the mortgage was obtained, name me on the title of said property??

My mother recently died, leaving me with a mortgage on a property and I found out I was not placed on the title of the property. Please advise if I have any recourse.

Thanks,
Peg
Hi peggy,

The lender will want your name to be added on the property deed if you co-sign for the mortgage. It is quite surprising for me to note that though your name is not on the property deed, you are the co-signer of the mortgage. As your mother is deceased now, you should file an affidavit of heirship and get the property transferred in your name.

Thanks
