What proof is need for a "substantial long-term relationship". For instance, what proof for half-brother?
Start with an LOE, letter of explanation, provide to UW and see what they ask for. Birth certificates showing same parent?

I agree with Chris. Birth certificates mentioning the same parent can be a good proof of substantial long-term relationship with that person.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

usually, the only way this can be accomplished would be for the primary borrower party to refinance the loan in their name only.

half brother is significant. and provable. just ask what the underwriter wants

Sabrina, I would like to "toss" that answer of yours. In no way, shape or form was there any indication that the original poster is seeking a refinance of a loan. As a matter of fact, the only question germane here is the one about a half-brother as a coborrower.
The others who chose to provide an answer did so without going off-topic. Please reconsider your efforts to answer questions that haven't been asked - why confuse our original poster any more than he or she already is?
