Deceased grandmother

Posted on: 29th Jul, 2010 07:03 pm
My grandmother is deceased. The property is now heir property. I can not find any of my relatives. I have been paying the taxes for years. What do i need to do to get my name on the deed. I am the only relative living in the town where my grandmother passed. I don't even know if the others are living or dead. I just did not want to see her land auctioned away. What can i do?
Hi gwalk,

Did your grandmother leave back a will? If yes, then the will needs to be probated. After the probate is complete, the property will be divided as per the will. If there is no will, then you can file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office and get the property transferred in your name. As you cannot trace your other relatives, you can take the help of an attorney in order to decide what step you should take in this regard.

Thanks
