TRANSFERING PROPERTY

Posted on: 17th Mar, 2009 02:31 pm
My father passed away in 2002 from illness. I had been paying his bills for years before he past. I have been paying property taxes ever since. I have 6 brothers & sisters counting me. They want me to sell it but say they don't have the money to get a lawer to transfer. How would I go about getting transfer without seeing a lawyer.
Thank You
Hi dega,

If your father have left no will, then you need to file an Affidavit of Heirship with the probate court. The court will then decide how the property will be divided as per the laws of intestate succession applicable in your state. However, if your father had added you to the title through a deed before his death, filing his death certificate would be enough to change the title to your name.
