Name change

Posted on: 16th Jul, 2010 10:28 am
my deed has my former married name on it. I need to change it to my new name. I have always been and currently the sole owner of the property.
In the past, I have been made aware that you merely need to file an affidavit of name change in the land records where the property is located to take care of this task. Check with your recording office (town clerk, county clerk) and ask them if that's how they'll typically see such a change. If so, it should be an easy fix for you - perhaps a notary in the area would have experience in these things, and you can certainly ask an attorney (and I'm fairly sure all locales have a system that allows people to get free answers to queries such as this - like a 211 phone system, etc.).
