I was wondering if you can give me some information. This situation is going on in NYC if that helps.
My fiance just got divorced about a year ago. The agreement was that he was going to deed over the house to his ex-wife. She would re-finance the mortgage in her name. Their divorce lawyers said this would take away any responsibility on his part.
Now that she is starting the process of this agreement, she is coming to him saying that they need to split transfer fees for this transaction. About $1800.00 each.
Is he responsible for paying half. She's getting a house...why should he have to pay any fees. He walked away with nothing. Is he legally responsible for paying anything further?
Please help.

Hi mpagan!
Welcome to forums!
Your fiancé is not responsible for the transfer fees. However, if he pays it off, then he would be released from the liability of the mortgage and the property. He can negotiate with his ex-partner and reduce the amount and then pay off the dues.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
