I am in escrow to do a short sale but there are now 2 creditor liens against the property in my ex-husband's name. Can the interspousal transfer be done with the liens already existing? Will the responsibility for the debt be then transferred to me as recipient of the property?
With the interspousal transfer would I be able to get the liens removed so I can close escrow?

Hi battgirl,
The lien is placed on the property. It won't be removed by signing an interspousal transfer deed. You will have to pay off the lien in order to make the property free and clear. If you receive the property, you should first ask your ex-husband to pay off the liens.
