my husband has been divorced for 4 years. in the divorce he was awarded the marital property. the ex wife has tax lein on her assets. mortgage is in husbands name only, deed is in both names nothing was signed as far as deed transfer at time of divorce. marital property still considered ex wife's assets by irs because her name is on the deed. back taxes still not paid and we can't find out what the amount owed is she will not talk to us about it at all. house needs major repairs and we can't refinance because of the tax leins. what can we do to clear this mess up? the irs won't talk to us about it because it's not our taxes. we really can't afford a lawyer and not sure what type of lawyer we need
Hi rebelpenny,
The ex-wife needs to set up a payment plan with the IRS and pay off the tax lien. Unless the tax lien is paid off, it is true that none of the lenders will be ready to speak to you about a refinance. You can contact an attorney and check out how you can get the property transferred in your name despite of the tax liens.
Thanks

Hi rebelpenny!
Welcome to forums!
I agree with what James Hogg has said. But it is true that unless the tax lien is paid off, it won't be possible for you to get the property transferred in your name.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
