Deeds to house

Posted on: 27th Mar, 2010 04:06 pm
My father in law died recently, he was divorced from my husbands mother over 30 years ago however we believe his ex wife still has name on the deeds. Is it possible she can claim on the house if we sell it?
Hi Emma,

If the ex-wife's name is mentioned on the property deed, then she will have the rights to claim ownership of the property. If you sell off the property, she has the rights to demand a portion of the sale proceeds.

Thanks
