My father passed away in July; how long do I have before I have to transfer property (house, truck, etc) out of his name?
You will have to transfer the property in your name, you will have to file an affidavit of heirship in the county recorder's office
I do nto think there is any time restrictions, but its always better to do it immeditely to avoid any legal issues or any scammers

Hi Shannon,
If your father hasn't left a will, then you should file an affidavit of heirship now at the county recorder's office and transfer his property in your name. If he has left a will, then you need to probate it and then transfer the property. I don't think there is any specified time limit to transfer the property in your name.
Thanks

Hi martha!
Welcome to forums!
As you were divorced, I don't think you would be able to claim anything from his estate unless he had declared you the beneficiary or heir to any of his properties.

Hi partha,
You can file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office and get the property transferred in your name.
