my ex-bf and i bought a house together in january. we broke up and he is currently living there. he got a lawyer and threaten to bring me to court because i refused to sign the deed without compensation. i got no money to consult a lawyer (i am a full time student). what are the cost involve if he brings me to court? i don't think it's fair since we both put efforts into that house and i got left with nothing.
Hi mayvoigio!

Welcome to the Forums!

I understand your situation and hope that you come out of it very quickly. First and foremost no one can force you to sign a deed. As he is threatening you with the help of his lawyer, it is better you consult a lawyer. You can go in for the Modest Means Program if you cannot afford a lawyer at present.

Feel free to ask if you have further queries.

undoubtedly we have dealt with the illegality of "forcing" a signature.

mayvoigio, you can also check for legal aid online or in the yellow pages to see if you can protect yourself that way.

you definitely need legal counsel, though - you need to protect yourself.
