I was given notice to vacate my home by the court as a beginning to the foreclosure process and I packed up and left. I then filled bankruptsy which included the house. The bankruptsy closed in August of 2008. The house then went to tax sale in 2009. Even though the house was sold at that tax sale and I was cleared of all debt related to the property, the property remains in my name. Why? And because it is in my name I continue to be responsible for the property and the taxes and the water and sewer bills and maintenance of the property.yet the courts have ordered me to vacate the premises. Had I know how the banks played the game I could have been living rent and mortgage free for the past two years. But with the house being vacant it has been vandalized to the point of not being livable, otherwise I would move back in until it went into someone elses name. How do I get my name off this property and I hope readers learn something by this post?
Hi Guest,
Though your property was listed for a tax sale, are you sure that the property was sold off? If the property was not sold off at the tax sale auction, then it would remain in your name and you would be responsible for the property taxes, etc. You will have to check out whether or not you own the property. If you still own the property, then you should contact the required authorities and ask them to speed up the process so that the tax sale takes place quickly.
