Property Deeds

My grandmother raised me and I was borned and raised in the house that she owns. She died in June 2008. The property deeds are only in her name. I am the Care giver of the property and house. What do I have to do to get the house in my name without paying a lot of money? I want to move back into the house but this is holding me back. I have to get the house insepcted to get the lights turned on and they told me that my name would have to be on the deeds.
Hi laconda,

Since your grandmother did not leave any will, you need to file an Affidavit of Heirship with a probate court along with her death certificate. This will remove her name from the title while adding yours to it.
