i have been living on a double property for 50 years, paying all the bills, taxes etc. (no mortgage) my grandparents died respectively in the 1930's, one property is in each of their names. i want to have my name put on the deed, since i am an heir and have been maintaining and living here for all of my life. to my knowledge there is no one else alive who is related. how can i do this, where do i begin? can i go to the courts and just change this? new york, queens county
Hi mat!

Welcome to forums!

I hope there is no will left by your grandparents. In that case, you should contact the local county recorder's office and file an affidavit of heirship. This will help you in transferring the property in your name.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
