How do I do a name change to grant deed?

Posted on: 01st Dec, 2009 10:14 am
my husband passed in march 2009. Back in the 40's, his name was printed on the grant deed, but my name wasn't. I have been advised to have my name added to the grant deed and to remove his name. How do I do this? Thank you!
The Deed will be transferred back into your name as part of the Probate process for his Estate. Have you started Probate yet?

Is this the only way to remove his name and add my name? When we bought our home, my name and his name were on the title papers. According to the LA county assessors office, back in the 40's the husband's name was usually put on the grant deed and the wife's name was was left off. There must be another way than going through probate.

You can avoid Probate if your Husband had a Living Trust. Otherwise his Estate must go through Probate. And it's the formal (and only) way of handling your Title situation.

Why haven't you started Probate yet? He Passed 9 months ago. Probate would almost be over if you started it right after he passed.
