My moms neighbor passed away. He has no wife or children, his parents have given me the property, and Im not sure how to get it in my name. He does have a brohter and sister, but they also said I could have the property. They were down last week and got some personal stuff, from the property. They said as far as they are concerend when they leave the property is mine , and they will never come back. They will sign, what ever papers I send them.

When you say they gave you the property, you need to get this in some legal form

If it was verbal, then you need to get an attonry and get this legally in your name

Rememeber you will be liable to pay the property taxes on the house, once you get ownership of the property

Welcome christina,

You've mentioned that the neighbors' parents had given you the property. Did they sign a quitclaim deed or leave back a will stating you as the heir to the property? If there's a will, then that needs to be probated. Once the probate is complete, you would get the ownership of the property.

If there is no will, then you will have to file an affidavit of heirship at the county recorder's office and transfer the property in your name.
