My sister died without a will. She left me several annuities etc and also wanted me to have her house. My mother is still living and says she is the legal inheriter and will get all of my sisters remaining estate. My sisters estate has already gone through the probate system and is ready for the final hearing on 10-12-10. My mother says she will recieve the house and sign it over to me. Will I owe taxes on the house when it is signed over to me?
Welcome DBjordahl,
Once your mother signs over the property to you, it will make you the owner of the property. After you get the property transferred in your name, you will be liable for the complete maintenance of the property and will owe the property taxes.
