Property Interest

i was contacted by an attorney over a year ago saying that my dad had put me down for interest in property and this attorney was going to send me a check, deed, and papers to have signed and notarized. i didn't hear from him for over a year and then he calls yesterday to tell me that the home on the property burned down and now i don't have any money coming from that. but its the same address as where i was put on a quit claim deed. can someone tell me how one minute the attorney says i have a big fat check coming and now i don't? thanks.
Hi Peejo,

By signing the quit claim deed you did receive property interest. You were getting money for what purpose?

The deed and papers he was sending were to put you on title of that property or for you to sign over your interest in that property to someone else?

My dad put my name down on a quit claim deed back in 1982. This lawyer said my dad wanted him to sell this property back in 2000 but the lawyer told my dad to let it sit there and he would take care of it. This lawyer said he rented it and my dad made a few bucks each month from this. My dad passed away in 2004 and I only found out about his passing in 2006 when this lawyer first contacted me. Now he calls yesterday to say he thought I had money coming to me but doesn't think so now. I informed him about the quit claim deed and told him I was waiting on half the interest to that. I posted another post in regards to after I do receive the interest the title still won't be clear and this lawyer said I could sell my part of the lot but I don't know how to do this. This whole mess has been very confusing to me.

Hello Peejo,

[justify:cf99eb95e5]I really identify with your situation. But you can come out of it if you have a clear state of mind and a positive approach. :)

What I feel is that, this lawyer, who is contacting you, may be deceiving you. The procedure that you can take a legal action against the lawyer. But before that, you do need to ensure that you have a copy of the deed with you, which would help you in the legal proceedings. And, consult a lawyer in this regard.
