How to get my name on deed for house

Posted on: 09th Sep, 2008 06:44 pm
I have been married for 2+ year. The mortgage for the house in in my husband's and his late wife's name. How can I get her name off and my name on the house without having to go through a re-finance. If something were to happen tomorrow, what would happen? Would my stepsons get the house automatically, or would I, or would we all be S.O.L.?
Welcome Sprcoach,

Are you interested in getting the mortgage in your name? If you simply want to add your to the house deed, then your husband and you need to file an Affidavit of Heirship. Such a document will help you to remove his late wife's name from the title and add yours.

Know more on Affidavit of Heirship from http://www.mortgagefit.com/know-how/quitclaim-heirshipaffidavit.html#25238 .
