Clarify owner of property.

I purchased 8 acres of land, along with a partner, forty years ago. My partner died over 20 years ago. I cannot find any papers stating him passing along any interest in the property to heirs. His name is still on the deed. I have been paying the taxes. I would like to remove his name from the deed and become sole owner.
Am I the sole owner? Do I have to make any legal moves?

Thank you
You can contact the county recorder's office and file an affidavit of heirship in order to get the property transferred in your name.
